Kindergarten Program

OPENING ACTIVITIES – Children will:
Participate in opening routines (attendance, Calendar etc.)
Hear about new or special activities, planned for the day.

GROUP TIME (Whole group instruction) – Children will:
Learn about new concepts in areas of language, Math and science.
Participate in language and print rich activities guided by the teacher.
Listen to presentations from special visitors or show and tell stories.
Participate in group singing, finger plays, poetry and music/movement.

WORK TIME IN LEARNING CENTERS –Children will:
Extend their learning experiences by engaging in activities in various areas such as reading/writing, dramatic play, blocks, art, science and Math areas.
Co-operate with a classmate or small group.
Work one on one with the teacher.
Practice and generalize skills such as writing, counting and problem solving through relevant and meaningful activities.

TRANSITION – CLEAN UP FOR SNACK TIME
Experience new foods and learn about nutrition
Socialize with friends. Learn Self help skills
Practice math skills by helping to count plates and cups and other items.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY TIME – Children will:
Use their own body in active play to develop small and large muscle groups.
Engage in age appropriate games.
Work co operatively with others.
Use playground equipment.

SHARED READING EXPERIENCE – Children will:
Read books, songs, charts and or picture stories together.
Participate in themed activities which extend the current lesson.
Learn about print concepts through teacher guided reading and writing activities.

10 min TRANSITION TIME – CLEAN UP FOR LUNCH

QUIET TIME – Children will:
Listen to quiet music.
Listen to stories and look at books.
Use quiet materials individually.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES (such as Art, Music, P.E etc) – Children will:
Engage in learning outside the classroom environment.
Participate in extended learning opportunities.
Learn about cooking. Make cookies and cakes etc.
Learn to Make play dough, slime, and other experiments.
Learn about Health and Nutrition.

10 min TRANSITION TIME – CLEAN UP FOR SNACK

JOURNAL WRITING – Children will:
Write about self-chosen or prompted topics using pictures and or words.
Dictate stories to the teacher.
Express their thoughts and ideas in pictures and or words.

DAILY REFLECTION – Children will:
Review concepts learned during the day.
Verbalize in a group setting what they have done or learned.
Begin to appreciate other’s point of view.
